Regardless of the fact that they have provided less entertainment than a lads night out with a gas company, you have to feel a little bit sorry for the Big Brother contestants. Tonight they will leave the house expecting to be caught in a wave of sudden popularity, only to find that even members of their own families have forgotten who they are. Only Emilia stands any chance of continued exposure, and that all really depends on how willing she is to strip off and bend. The rest will be forgotten within seconds.
The main problem is that by choosing to hand pick “talent” from such a tiny demographic (18-21), Big Brother was instantly stripped of the tension caused by generational divides, and by selecting high achievers, they went for a group of kids who are far too bright and self aware to shame themselves on television (apart from perhaps Anthony, who went on to embarrass Calista instead - damaging his own winning chances along the way).
And so Amy has run away with it, it seems. In her favour is that girls tend to win these spin-off shows (Shilpa Shetty, last year; Chanelle Houghton, 2006), plus she seems to be the only genuinely likeable housemate in there. Her most impressive work of art was surely replacing her mouth with a triangle. Well done Amy. Or is it?
